What You'll Be Doing as a Data Protection Lead:
Embed data protection policies and procedures: Take ownership of the existing framework, working across teams to ensure policies are understood, implemented and followed in practice.
Manage data breaches and individual rights requests: Lead breach investigations, advise on regulatory reporting and oversee data subject access requests, complaints and other rights requests.
Oversee risk assessments and compliance: Lead data protection impact assessments, identify risks and provide practical advice on lawful processing, consent, retention and sensitive personal data.
Deliver training and raise awareness: Develop and deliver role-appropriate training, helping colleagues understand their responsibilities and apply data protection requirements confidently.
Maintain compliance and governance: Keep policies, privacy notices, processing records and risk registers up to date, monitoring legislative changes and regulatory guidance.
Advise and influence across the business: Support teams with supplier due diligence, electronic marketing, information security and other data protection matters, providing regular compliance updates to senior leadership.
What We're Looking For:
Strong working knowledge of UK data protection legislation, including the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, PECR and relevant ICO guidance.
Proven, hands-on experience managing data subject access requests and data protection impact assessments from start to finish.
Experience embedding compliance requirements into operational processes and improving working practices.
Excellent communication and training skills, with the ability to explain complex requirements clearly to non-specialists.
Strong analytical and written skills, with the ability to assess risks, develop practical solutions and produce clear documentation and reports.
A proactive, highly organised and commercially aware approach, with the confidence to work autonomously, influence stakeholders and challenge where necessary.
