Junior Network Planner
Turn GIS and geographical skills into practical fibre designs, grow your network planning career and help connect rural communities across the South West.
At Wessex Internet, we’re building our own full-fibre network across the South West, connecting rural communities with fast, reliable broadband.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in GIS, Geography, Geology, Surveying or a similar discipline who wants to develop their technical skills and build a career in fibre network design. You’ll work alongside experienced planners and designers, gaining hands-on experience across the full design and build process.
What would you get a Junior Network Planner with Wessex Internet:
A salary between £27,000 - £30,000, dependent on experience.

Career development opportunities - Whether you want to lead a team or learn new skills, we'll support your growth in our fast-moving business.
What you’ll be doing as a Junior Network Planner:
Producing accurate fibre designs from Cabinet to Customer Access Point (CAP), considering routes, cable sizes, node locations and installation methods.
Creating clear and accurate Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and splice matrices for fibre designs.
Preparing designs and validating blueprints before they are released to our construction teams.
Working with planning, build and engineering teams to resolve design queries and make updates during construction.
Using as-built information to update network maps, project information and CAP statuses accurately.
Supporting Service Delivery by providing patching information and helping engineers resolve splicing or network issues.
Working with our Sales team to provide fibre quotes for bespoke customer build requirements.
What we’re looking for
You don’t need to know everything about fibre network design already. We’re looking for someone with the right technical foundations, attention to detail and willingness to learn.
You’ll ideally have:
Experience using GIS, particularly QGIS, with a good understanding of spatial data and mapping.
A degree or equivalent experience in Geography, Geology, Surveying, GIS or a related subject.
Some experience reading, creating or working with Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) would be useful.
Strong attention to detail and an organised approach to your work.
Good spatial awareness and the ability to interpret geographical information.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with different teams.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and the confidence to use your own initiative.
A genuine interest in learning new technical skills and developing your knowledge of fibre networks.
Any previous experience within telecoms, utilities or infrastructure would be advantageous, but isn’t essential.
Ready to build your career in fibre network planning?
If you have a GIS or geographical background, enjoy working with technical information and want to develop your career in a growing telecoms business, we’d love to hear from you.
