This is a hands-on field leadership role, leading a team of Cable & Survey Engineers while remaining actively involved in surveying, cabling, technical problem-solving and as-built data capture. You’ll be responsible for setting the right standards across safety, quality and productivity, while working closely with our Construction Operations and office-based teams.

Key Responsibilities as a Cable & Survey Team Lead:
Lead and support a team of Cable & Survey Engineers, setting clear expectations around safety, quality, productivity and professional standards.
Coordinate daily field activity, ensuring planned work is completed efficiently while identifying and escalating risks or potential job failures early.
Carry out and oversee surveys and route assessments, including inspections of ducts, chambers, overhead and underground infrastructure and identifying suitable installation routes.
Install and supervise fibre and sub-duct cabling, working across Wessex Internet and Openreach PIA infrastructure and ensuring agreed technical and Street Works standards are followed.
Provide hands-on technical guidance and problem-solving, supporting engineers on site and making appropriate decisions where work needs to be adapted or escalated.
Maintain accurate records and communication, capturing survey, installation and as-built information and liaising with supervisors, Project Managers, Planning, Connections, contractors, customers and landowners.
What we’re looking for from our next Cable & Survey Team Lead:
Experience in fibre installation, cabling, surveying, construction or FTTP delivery within the telecommunications industry.
Strong knowledge of overhead and underground network infrastructure, ideally including Openreach PIA and fibre network construction.
Previous team leadership experience, with the ability to lead and develop engineers while remaining hands-on in the field.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, maps, specifications and network designs, with strong practical problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication, organisation and decision-making skills, with the confidence to work with colleagues, contractors, customers and landowners.
A proactive and safety-focused approach, with good IT skills and the flexibility to work outdoors, including at height and in varying weather conditions.
Qualifications & Tickets
The following would be advantageous:
Full UK driving licence, held for at least 12 months.
Appropriate towing entitlement and experience towing trailers.
PIA accreditations, including SA001, SA002, S7 or S8.
NRSWA Signing, Lighting & Guarding / Operative Unit 2.
IPAF and working-at-height training.
Relevant fibre, telecoms, surveying or Street Works qualifications.
Relevant WJA certification where jetter operation is required.
