Fibre Network Planner
Shape the South West’s full-fibre future as a Fibre Network Planner, designing rural FTTP networks that connect communities and turn plans into real-world delivery.
We’re looking for a Fibre Network Planner to join our Planning team and play a key role in the continued development and growth of our full-fibre network.
You’ll be responsible for planning and designing a wide range of FTTP projects, predominantly across rural communities and smaller settlements. Working closely with our Build, Engineering and Delivery teams, you’ll take projects from initial network design through to construction and final as-built acceptance.
This is a hands-on technical planning role where your designs will directly contribute to expanding our network and connecting more customers to high-speed full fibre.
What would you get a Fibre Network Planner with Wessex Internet:
A salary between £30,000 - £36,500, dependent on experience.
25 days holiday + bank holidays, with the option to buy/sell up to 5 days.
Private medical insurance & life assurance.
Cycle to Work & Tech purchase schemes.
Enhanced family leave policies.
Staff broadband discount (75%).
High street discounts on 100+ brands.
Summer & Christmas team socials.
Career development opportunities - Whether you want to lead a team or learn new skills, we'll support your growth in our fast-moving business.
What you'll be doing as Fibre Network Planner:
Plan and design P2P and XGS-PON fibre networks, selecting appropriate routes, cable sizes, node locations and installation methods while working within project budgets.
Produce accurate fibre designs, network maps, Straight Line Diagrams (SLDs), splice matrices and PON area plans using relevant GIS and planning tools.
Work closely with Build, Engineering, Delivery teams, contractors and third parties to support project delivery and meet key network targets.
Validate designs and blueprints before construction, manage design changes during build and ensure completed works align with the approved network plan.
Review and accept as-built information, updating network maps, CAP statuses, UPRNs and asset records to maintain accurate network information.
Produce project reports and asset information, including meterage and asset lists, and provide planning support where required.
What we're looking for from our next Network Planner:
We’re looking for someone with a strong understanding of fibre network planning and design, who can manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-moving environment.
You'll ideally have:
Detailed knowledge of XGS-PON and Point-to-Point fibre network architecture.
Previous experience in FTTP planning and design, ideally within the telecommunications industry.
Experience using GIS and/or CAD software, with knowledge of tools such as QGIS and Vetro/Render advantageous.
A strong understanding of rural fibre build methods, including PIA, rural ploughing, directional drilling and hard trenching.
Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and changing requirements.
A detail-focused and practical approach, with a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality network designs.
Why join us?
You’ll be joining a team that is playing a direct role in expanding full-fibre connectivity across rural communities throughout the South West.
With a variety of rural network projects to work on, this is an opportunity to use your technical planning expertise to help connect communities that have historically had limited access to high-speed broadband.
If you’re an experienced Fibre Network Planner looking for your next challenge, we’d love to hear from you.
