Fibre Installations Team Leader (internal only)
Lead a skilled fibre installations team at Wessex Internet, combining hands-on technical expertise, practical problem-solving and great customer service to keep rural communities connected.
As part of our continued growth, we’re looking for an experienced Fibre Installations Team Leader to join our Connections team at Wessex Internet.
Reporting to the Installations Manager, you’ll lead and support a team of 7+ engineers, ensuring they have the right tools, training and support to deliver safe, high-quality fibre installations and maintain excellent customer connections.
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines team management, technical expertise, customer service and operational problem-solving. You’ll play an important role in keeping our customers connected, resolving failed installations and supporting the wider Connections operation.
You’ll use your networking knowledge across both our Legacy and XGS networks, while ensuring that all network adjustments and installation information are accurately recorded so our fibre maps remain current and up to date.

What You'll Be Doing:
Lead and support a team of 7+ installation operatives, overseeing performance, development, training, daily schedules and team briefings.
Diagnose and resolve fibre installation and service issues, supporting failed installations and carrying out emergency and planned maintenance across our Legacy and XGS networks.
Oversee field operations and quality, including regular site inspections, job validation, surveying and planning to minimise installation failures and delays.
Ensure high standards of Health & Safety and compliance, including PPE, working at height, onsite documentation, engineer audits and fleet inspections.
Coordinate customer and landowner requirements, managing appointments and working closely with the Onboarding Team to ensure customers are kept informed.
Provide technical and operational support across the Connections teams, working collaboratively with Engineering, Pre-Enablement, Onboarding and Gardenworks to resolve issues and maintain service.
Identify and prevent recurring issues, monitoring job trends, network adjustments and operational discrepancies and working with the Installations Manager to implement improvements.
Provide hands-on leadership and out-of-hours support, including on-call cover, toolbox talks, emergency response and onsite support when required.
What We're Looking For:
We’re looking for someone who combines strong leadership skills with practical telecoms and fibre installation experience.
You'll ideally have:
Previous experience leading or supervising a field-based engineering or installation team.
Extensive knowledge of the telecoms industry, ideally with fibre installation or customer-facing experience.
Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
A proactive and practical approach to problem-solving.
The ability to work autonomously and use your own initiative.
Strong self-organisation and time-management skills.
A willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing processes and technologies.
Confidence working at height, ideally with relevant certified training.
A reliable, honest and professional approach.
An understanding of the challenges involved when working within customers' homes and commercial properties.
A full UK driving licence held for at least 12 months.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
The following would be advantageous, although they are not essential:
PIA accreditations – SA001, SA002, S7 and S8.
NRSWA Signing, Lighting and Guarding.
IPAF certification.
Previous experience working across fibre installation and network infrastructure.
